Saturday: Take two hours at an arboretum plant sale, sore arms, grumpy from the crushing humanity, and $75 later.
Then add Sunday: Six hours of hard, yard labor in the blistering sun and $50 at the local compost/fertilizer store.
Mix in Monday: Another hour at the store, another two in the yard, a rusty wine barrel cut in half, and $80 at previous plant store getting mulch, potting soil, birthday cards and flip flops, yet still remaining undecided about which plants are going in the barrels, which means yet another trip to the plant store and more money and more hours and did I mention my arms were sore?
If after all that, this:
turns into this:
Then I swear to god I won't be held responsible for my organic garden/yard turning into a chemical war zone. Even if the damn Western Tent Caterpillars don't leave any "permanent" damage.
If that yard looks vaguely familiar to you, then where the HELL where you on Sunday when I needed an extra hand or two? And don't give me that look, you know the Hub hates yard work. There's still lots left to do if you are so inclined, for instance there needs to be a barrier between the grass I left and the dirt.
You know, if you felt like it.
Posted by kerewin at April 27, 2004 11:00 AMi said it once, and i'll say it again - EWWWWWWWWA...
what kind of wilderness do you live in?
muhahahahahahaaa
. . . and those HGTV shows get it all done in 1/2 hour - tsk tsk tsk - btw - I was CJ but I guess you don't like me anymore - I won't post - as it says I'm not allowed - but I did want to sympathsize as I'm looking at a yard full of burr clover and trying to decide what to do - tear it all out - chemicals - Jerry's answer is cememt - but then he grew up in SF the land of cement so that's probably a nostalgic answer for him.
If you find any of those 1/2 hour solutions - let me know. P.S. my yard is 1/3 acre - I'll trade!

I didn't block you, I blocked a spammer, but due to a glitch between MT and FV and maybe apple, it was using FV's ip address for every poster, so EVERYONE was blocked, even me!
oops!
Now for your yard, let's see, I agree with you on the lack of cement. What we did one year was completely pretend that we didn't have a lawn. Soon we had a forest instead! So don't do that.
Surprisingly, just regular mowing with a mulcher tends to block the weeds, and the 95% weed-filled lawn we inherited with the house is now only 45% or so weeds. Granted, that's 4 years of mowing, but we aren't that diligent. You could always pay me to do it......AHhahAHHAHahahahahaAHHA. Ahem, that was a good laugh.
